I got a new dog

It’s Penny.

For a while now I have been really considering getting another dog. We have one already- a 9 year old Cockapoo named Copper:

Copper is a damn goof.

Copper has been… a LOT of work over 9 years. He is a good dog overall, and maybe it’s on us for how we trained him and so on. Or maybe it’s the breeds. Either way, He’s been a lot to handle. The itch though got to me as I started to understand just how much Copper was my wife’s dog. Not mine. He’ll let me feed and take care of him if he has to. He’d prefer I get busy and hit the bricks however.

I did reading and thinking and was like dammit. I may be a selfish narcissist but I want another dog. lo and behold- after a few weeks the local Humane Society ended up with three Lab mix puppies. I knew I wanted a female. I have just had better luck with female dogs overall. One was female. Now- did I want a puppy? I had been targeting older dogs around 3-5 years. The advantage was- hopefully their spaz era was already gone. But with a puppy you do get the cute moments and they are a clean slate. With other animals in the house, that may be an advantage.

It was pretty much decided for me when I went to the rescue and met her. She’s got a sweet disposition and is calm and friendly overall. Vocal as needed but not terribly so. Spastic in short Burts- she’s 9 weeks old this week so that is to be expected.

We brought her home last Wednesday and things are good. She is adapting to the house, and to Copper. He is not terribly impressed and wishes that Penny would hit the bricks with me, but I think he is warming slowly.

So, I guess in lieu of talking about the word being on fire- war with Iran, Christian Nationalists shooting state senators, ICE raids, Steven Miller in general, I can now talk about the pups.
